Los Angeles based photojournalist Adrian Sanchez-Gonzalez was awarded the $10,000 Nikon Achievement Scholarship for Best Student Work at the Eddie Adams Workshop earlier this month. Gonzalez, born to Mexican parents, is a native of Los Angeles. Gonzalez is currently finishing his photojournalism Associates Degree from Los Angeles Pierce College and hopes to enroll at San Francisco State University and study journalism. Gonzalez freelances for Agencia EFE.

In 1984, she was on a team of reporters and photographers that won a Pulitzer Prize for meritorious public service for the Los Angeles Times series "Southern California's Latino Community."

Gloria (left) and Rene Mendoza were two of the approximately 80 people who participated in the 12th annual Mujeres de Paz Candlelight March and Vigil in East Los Angeles on October 8, 2009. The Candlelight march began at the East Los Angeles Civic Center and proceeded to a mural of La Virgen De Guadalupe on the corner of Mednik and Avnida Cesar Chavez.

Daniel Hernandez Awarded Silver Star After 43 Years

After 43 years, Daniel Hernandez was awarded a Silver Star medal for diving through enemy fire to pick up a wounded Marine and carry him to safety in Vietnam. Hernandez was 20 when he served as a machine gunner with a company, which was among the hardest hit during the Vietnam War, loosing 17 men on March 5, 1966. Several hundred veterans, friends and relatives gathered for the ceremony in Hernandez’ honor at the Hollenbeck Youth Center in Los Angeles on October 3, 2009.
